Emergency Communications Network
Beyond the well-established internal network of the GLRCE, a Public Health Officials Network (PHON) is being constructed to integrate and harmonize action in the event of an outbreak. The PHON, tying GLRCE investigators and administrators to existing state and local emergency responders and public health organizations, is under construction. The GLRCE maintains 24-hours per day/ 7-days per week contact information and chain-of-command materials. Robust protocols allow for continued function even in the event of damage to the communications hierarchy.
Each institution of the GLRCE has appointed a point person to serve as liaison and contact expert in the event of an outbreak. These liaisons, along with the GLRCE leadership, have full knowledge of regional abilities and expertise, and are prepared to lend assistance on behalf of their institution or from the GLRCE as a whole.
Upon activation of the GLRCE Communications Tree, the GLRCE Regional Representative, the RCE institution in closest proximity to the outbreak, and the GLRCE recognized expert in the suspected pathogen or disease, are notified of the emergent situation. In turn, they will contact relevant Public Health officials, using the GLRCE's PHON and begin opening pipelines for diagnostic and treatment relevant resources.
